Sources Say A Match Between Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady And Peyton Manning Will Happen Next Month On TNT

Action Network- “The Match II” is happening. Sources tell The Action Network that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are in the final stages of planning golf showdown in May, and the second go-around comes with a twist: Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will be joining the duo for a 2v2 match. A Turner Sports spokesperson confirmed to The Action Network the match will be aired live on TNT with surrounding content on Bleacher Report. It’s unclear the exact date, but rumored dates are May 15 and May 24. All proceeds from the event will go to COVID-19 relief. The matchup is believed to be Tiger/Peyton vs. Phil/Brady, and it will be called “The Match: Champions for Charity.” A PGA TOUR official told The Action Network’s Jason Sobel that Tiger and Phil would to receive a “release form for them to play a televised or streamed event in the U.S.” TOUR officials did not immediately confirm that such a release has been granted.

The course has not been finalized, but one source pointed to Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla, as the likely destination for the event. Woods is a member at the Medalist, which is a popular private club among PGA TOUR pros. It is currently unclear what the format for this one-day contest will be.

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ok so it doesn't sound like it's a done done deal but it's basically a done deal. A charity golf match between Tiger/Peyton and Phil/Brady is in the works, it would happen some time in mid-to-late May, it would air on TNT and it would be centered around charity. Medalist is currently rumored to be where it'll take place but nothing is set in stone obviously. That's all we know right now.

We need this to happen man. We need some kind of live sporting event to happen and it would be HUGE for golf if this match actually happens. Think about how big the build up was for The Last Dance on Sunday. It trended on Twitter from the moment we woke up on Sunday to the moment we went to bed on Sunday. And that was about something we already knew about (albeit something very very interesting). The fact is that nothing matches live sports and the world hasn't had live sports for over a month and a half and we are THIRSTY. A golf match between two of the greatest golfers of all time with two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time would be the definition of must-see TV.

I'll be very curious to see how it all works from a COVID-19 perspective. I mean they're gonna have to test EVERYBODY and likely multiple times for it to work. The logistics surrounding how to pull this thing off might be more interesting than the match itself. You can't have an event like this if you aren't 100% positive that nobody comes away from it with coronavirus.

We shall see.
